Introduction to our blog

Technological advances of the 21st century have had a tremendous effect on the way people, and businesses, operate on a daily basis. The world is more connected than ever thanks to the rapid growth of smart phones, and the ability to access the web from almost anywhere at anytime. I-Phones and Androids dominate a market that was run by flip phones, and other basic cellular devices, just a few years ago. Your cell phone is no longer used solely for making phone calls and sending text messages. Smart Phones allow the user to perform day-to-day functions that once required a computer and a centralized location. Checking e-mails, staying connected with friends, and getting the answers to everyday questions can be done, on the go, at the push of a button (granted you have reception and a battery charge).
With the creation of these smartphones also came the introduction of mobile application software (or mobile apps for short). A mobile app is a type of application software designed to run on mobile devices. These apps frequently serve to provide users with similar services to those used on PCs, and are generally small, individual software units with limited function. Mobile apps come in all shapes and sizes and developers are constantly coming up with new ideas and improving on old ones.
As they say, “With great power comes great responsibility”. The analogous comparison of this phrase to mobile apps is that many people in today’s society are torn between which types of system to run these apps on, Android or I-Phone (IOS). There are many people who use both systems and the users of these systems think that the opposite system isn’t worth a lot.  Each system pretty much runs the apps the same with the exception of the menu layout and minor screen views. However, those who are Android users do not like iOS apps and vise versa.

Later in this blog we will explore deeper realities regarding Mobile applications and how they are used differently amongst different platforms (especially in the business world).

  1. Where should a growing business go if they are interested in creating a mobile app for their customers? Are there firms who will create and maintain these apps for smaller businesses who do not have the resources or knowledge within the company?

  2. John, one really great place to look is on freelance websites like Odesk, freelancer, elance, and guru.com are some popular ones. You can see what similar projects have bid for in the past and hire people from all over the world for affordable rates (you could afford it). Another popular site is foreign Craigslist sites, but obviously you have to be a lot more careful with that one.

  3. I find this interesting very interesting considering the fact that I was around when phones were incapable of almost half of the functions that they are now capable now. It always amazes me when I realize how much I rely on my mobile apps on my phone on a regular daily bases. Sometimes I wonder if I would even be able to survive without them! Lol, I mean I'm sure I would but it would take a lot of adjusting. I am very curious to know how vital mobile apps are to the business world as I know how vital they are to me personally. Can't wait to read more of you guy's blog!

  4. I agree with you that there are lots of people who can't decided between the two. I was one of them. I loved the size of the Android as well as the quality of taking pictures but love the simplicity of an iPhone more. I've used them both and I find that iPhone is much easier to used base on my experience and I am not a big fan of a big phone, that's where the tablet comes in. Majority of the applications are the same, where one might have something the other doesn't have. I also realize that there are lots of people who brought an iPhone or an Android for the popularity or looks of it instead of using it to it's fullest. It would be lucky if they even used 50% of what the phone is capable of doing.

  5. I believe y'all hit the nail on the with this introduction to this topic! I can also relate and understand the importance of innovation in the cell phone industry; for example I remember my parents first cell phones and how simple and low functional they were. It is amazing to think that we, individuals, and businesses can be much more efficiently ran from the palms of our hands.

  10. Once smart phones became the dominant cell phones I found myself drawn more towards android phones over iPhones. However, it wasn't necessarily the software that drove me in one direction but the physical devices themselves. For instance anytime I tried to use someones iPhone I couldn't easily figure out how to navigate the system because it only has one button. I prefer the menu and back buttons offered on many android devices.

  13. On the music side of technology, I appreciate how Androids and Iphones revolutionized the way cell phones are used, whether is for business or personal use. You are now able to play your own playlist through phones to your taste and likings through a car stereo without relying on radio stations.
